Two Gold, four Bronze Medals for North America at the 2015 Pan American Games

The Atos Markham PanAm / ParaPan Am Centre was the host for the Table Tennis Event at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. The atmosphere was spectacular, with a filled stadium at many sessions. Something that we are seeing more and more in Multi Sport Events like this. Both Canada and the United States were representing North America and very successfully with 6 medals.

There was no surprise with the top-seated US Women winning Gold in the Team competition and Wu Yue winning Gold in the Single Competition. Adding another medal to the U.S. team was Lily Zhang with her bronze medal in the single event.

The Canadian Teams both took the Bronze Medals in the men’s and women’s Team Competition, while Wang Zhen only lost to the Gold medalist Hugo Calderano from Brazil in the Semi Finals, but won Bronze and the hearts of the Canadian Supporters.

Wang Zhen was reflecting just a few days after the Games.

“The atmosphere was great, I was shocked how the crowds were cheering for us the first time we marched in for the match.

I felt that this was the hardest competition in my life, playing on home soil. One way I was so exciting of the game running in the country that we represent. On the other way, I was expecting and working hard in the past years to have a good performance and get the title for single event.”
